Media Magazine Evaluation
I believe my
research skills were good as I used a wide variety of research spanning from
websites to my peers. The research I found was not very hard to get because the
information was everywhere. In terms of reliability the websites I used were
BBC and bpi which were trustworthy as well as straight forward to get. Both
websites had many statistics and facts about music piracy, however the BPI had
more stats which were reliable to use too. Furthermore, BPI had more recent
facts about the music piracy which was as recent as this year but the facts
from the BBC were from 2012. In addition to websites, I obtained truthful
information from my class peers. They gave me both positives and negatives
about music piracy which was handy for my article too.
My
journalistic skills were made easier as the research gave me a head start to
writing my article. The article I wrote was formal because my target audience
were late teens to mid-20s and was aimed at men. An important aspect of my
journalistic skills was to write my article from both points of view allowing
the reader to relate to their opinion on music piracy. I wrote in first person
to show the reader my thoughts on music piracy.
InDesign was
relatively easy to use because I used a similar type of software called
Photoshop before. I got the hang of using the tools gradually e.g. text tool,
rectangle box tool and rectangle box tool for images, the more I used it the easier
it was too use. I created columns in my article and used subheadings to make it
easier to read. I also added four images into my article; two of them world
famous artists giving their views on music piracy, a guitar made up of skulls
symbolising music piracy and advert for Bowers and Wilkins iPod dock.
When setting
my blog I came across a few problems especially trying to login into my new
account. However after a few tries it worked and there haven’t been any
problems since then. My URL for the blog is rohanramaleytonas.blogspot.co.uk.
Overall I find blogger a website simple to use and a must for beginners.
The feedback
from my fellow peers was generally positive with a few improvements that I need
to make. I agree with these improvements as they are relevant to my magazine
article. I feel that with these improvements I can create a better magazine
article which can be viewed by others instead of just my peers.
At the end
of this induction tasks I feel there are four improvements that I need to make
with my article. Firstly I think that I could have added a touch of colour to
make this article stand out more and maybe also appeal more to my target
audience. This brings me along to my second improvement. The content of my
article could be made to be a little bit more informal as some of the content
might be a little tedious to read. My penultimate improvement is to include more
statistics and facts. This would have helped my reader to get to know the music
piracy a bit more. Finally my last improvement would be to check my work after
as looking at the finishing article I can see a few mistakes with the layout
and content.
This is a realistic evaluation in which you weigh up the main strengths and weaknesses, drawing on some examples. These could be expanded. but overall this has been a succesful induction. Well done Rohan. Vanessa
